The Million Mask Challenger Tour toured through six states from October 5-8, hosted nine strategic event stops and delivered 100,000 PPE face-masks to each Rotary District and their Clubs throughout New England. The masks were donated by a Connecticut Rotarian, and the goal was to have each Rotary Club provide protective masks to grass-roots first responders, essential workers, and schools in their communities.
Rotary District 7780, which includes forty-one Rotary clubs in Southern Maine and Coastal New Hampshire, received their masks during an event held at Portland City Hall in early October. The local Midcoast Rotary Clubs, including Brunswick, Brunswick Coastal, and Topsham Expresso Rotary Clubs, were given eight thousand masks to distribute. Lois Skillins, President of Mid Coast Hospital and a member of the Bath Rotary Club, spoke at the event along with Peggy Belanger, District 7780 Governor, and Dick Hall, District 7780 Governor-elect. The local clubs donated most of the masks to the Mid Coast Hospital Parkview campus, which has kept a list of organizations that need them, and the Brunswick Club distributed one thousand of the masks to local restaurants, the fire departments in Brunswick and Topsham, Harpswell Aging at Home, and additional organizations.
