Update from our Club President Zander Abbott
To my fellow Brunswick Rotary Club members,
I'm pleased to share a club update that encompasses our great work happening in September and October, while also looking ahead into November. A full representation of the beautiful Fall season and foliage we enjoy in Maine!
Our club was busy in September with a terrific beach clean-up in Harpswell that gathered feet-upon-feet of rope and pound-upon-pound of trash all removed with the people power of our Rotarians and their family and friends! Thank you to all involved in the event - we are already planning for next year!
We also participated in the BDA Community BBQ where many club members proudly stood under our Rotary Tent and engaged with the very well attended community event. Keep an eye out for another BDA event opportunity next month (Bed Races!).
As always, I want to invite each and every one of you to attend our noontime meetings on Mondays. We have had excellent presenters and great food and time with friends and other members. One highlight in September was Bowdoin College President Safa Zaki who gave a great overview of the college, their work to promote the common good, and answered Q&A about the facilities and other initiatives.
I have heard from many of you about the devastating hurricane season impacting communities through the Southeast US. The Rotary Zones covering those areas have put together a website with opportunities to support the local clubs as they rebuild their communities. Looking ahead to October and November we have lots to get excited about:
- Monday 10/21: We'll be carving pumpkins and getting ready for Halloween at our noontime meeting
- Thursday 10/31: Trick or Tent Halloween on the Mall! Come join our club to hand out candy
- 11/1 - 11/30: We have been selected as the local beneficiary for Cook's Corner Hannaford's Bloomin' 4 Good in which $1 of every specially marked bouquet sold in the month of November gets donated back to our club.
- Saturday 11/9: BDA Bed Races - join our club team to participate in the fun annual event!
- Saturday 11/9: The next Planning Meeting for our 100th Anniversary is at 10am
We aren't meeting on Monday (10/14) to recognize Indigenous People's Day, but I hope to see all of you the Monday after (10/21) to help carve pumpkins and gather candy for the Halloween event - Please bring a bag of candy or donate money to support our Rotary Halloween 'Trick or Tent' booth!
Sincerely,
Zander
