The Brunswick Rotary Club met Lonnie Hackett on March 31, 2014, when Lonnie was a Senior at Bowdoin College. He brought us an opportunity to help the poorest children in Lusaka through an innovative program that trained classroom teachers as front-line health care workers.

Twelve clubs in District 7780 supported this program, now called Healthy Learners, and it has grown from serving 12,000 school-age children and will soon scale to serve a million children. The Rotary Club of Ipswich Massachusetts and Rotary Club of South Berwick-Eliot joined the Brunswick Rotary Club as International partners for a total of five Global Grants.

Recently honored with a Donald MacRae Peace Award from Rotary Zone 32, Lonnie was also named as one of Forbes 2021 “30 under 30” in the area of social impact.
